Cleveland police Officer Timothy Loehmann, who fatally shot 12-year-old Tamir Rice in November 2014, was sacked Tuesday after an investigation found that he was guilty of violating rules when he applied to be a cadet, Cleveland Director of Public Safety Michael McGrath said. Officials said on Tuesday that Loehmann's firing wasn't due to the Rice incident, but rather, because the officer used false information about himself when he applied to join the Cleveland Police.

Cleveland authorities also announced that Frank Garmback, the officer driving the patrol auto at the time Loehmann shot Rice, would be suspended for 10 days for administrative rule violations of his own. Tamir Rice's mother called the firing "deeply disappointing".

City officials said Officer Loehmann was sacked for giving false information during his application process.

Tamir, who was black, was shot outside a recreation center in November 2014 as he held a pellet gun that the white officers mistook for a real firearm.

Williams said Loehmann, who shot Rice, has been fired.

The shooting was one of several involving police and unarmed black males, which led to mass protests across the US.

Guerra started against Arizona, making his first appearance since being sidelined by a strained right calf on opening day. The injury occurred as Braun chased down a high fly ball in the third inning. "Same calf, same situation", Braun said.

Garmback was suspended for 10 days for violating a tactical rule for his driving that day.

"The disciplinary letter cites a letter in Loehmann's personnel file from Independence that says he was emotionally immature and had 'an inability to emotionally function.' The letter also cites an emotional breakdown Loehmann had on the gun range in Independence". Loehmann shot Tamir within two seconds after the police cruiser stopped near the boy. A grand jury refused to file charges against Loehmann and Garmback in December 2015.

The final decision to fire Loehmann was made after what Cleveland's Mayor Frank Jackson deemed an "exhaustive process" of investigation.

In April 2016, the city agreed to pay $6m (£4.14m) to the family of Tamir Rice. Investigators say surveillance shows Tamir reaching toward his waistband and lifting up an outer garment. "We still need accountability".

The police union representing the officers planned a news conference later Tuesday.

"This has been tough on our entire community", Cleveland police chief Calvin Williams said.
