The president was addressing an global conference on security and humanitarian issues concerning Somalia in London on Thursday (11 May).

During his speech, President Farmajo noted that his government is pushing efforts to take advantage from the opportunity presented from Somalia's partners.

"Here in London, we can tip the scales from danger to safety", said Mr. Guterres.

Humanitarian agencies operating in Somalia say they are concerned about reports of upcoming military offensives in the country at a time when the risk of starvation still persists.

In his opening remarks, Guterres called for an additional $900 million to aid the 6.2 million people "whose crops have withered, livestock has died and waterholes have dried up".
