No one will lose their job over an incident which saw a United Airlines passenger violently dragged from a plane, the carrier's CEO has announced.

The chief executive says no one will be fired over the incident.

A surge in holiday air travel this weekend comes as airlines are making changes to their policies in the wake of a bad month. The House's Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, which oversees aviation policy, will hold a hearing to probe just what happened on United Flight 3411. In widely distributed cellphone video, Dao can be seen being pulled from his seat and dragged away by airport police officers, his face bloodied.

In United's first-quarter earnings call this week, company executives again apologized to Dao and United customers after top execs had earlier minimized the incident.

United Airlines, City Of Chicago Will Keep Evidence Related To Passenger Dragging: Lawyers for Dr. David Dao had asked for a court order last week so that video and records from the flight wouldn't be discarded.

"It was a system failure across various areas, so there was never a consideration for firing an employee or anyone around it".

While the CEO of the airline called Dao "disruptive and belligerent", the company's shares fell by 6.3% - which was a whopping $1.4-billion in real money.

According to the Associated Press, he said on Tuesday: "I'm sure there was lots of conjecture about me personally".

Munoz was then forced to issue a proper apology, saying he "continues to be disturbed" by what happened and that the airline would "fix what's broken so it never happens again".

Some politicians and consumer advocates have called for a ban on overselling flights.

Even in normal times, airlines closely - even daily - scrutinise numbers such as advance sales and occupancy levels on planes. United President Scott Kirby said, "We feel like we've managed that pretty well and our corporate accounts are largely supportive". Wall Street analysts have been mostly silent about the Dao incident, perhaps believing that it won't have a noticeable impact on United profits.

"The flight 3411 incident, while undoubtedly a public relations disaster, will most likely not materially affect United's medium- to long-term financial and operational performance".
