Roy Moore to announce what's next for him after Chief Justice suspension
30 April, 2017, 02:26
Roy Moore has just announced he is entering Alabama's special race this year for a seat in the U.S. Senate.
Alabama's Court of the Judiciary suspended Moore without pay from his seat on the bench in 2016 for the remainder of his term after it ruled his intransigent stance on same-sex marriage was a violation of federal law and judicial ethics.
"My position has always been God first, family then country", Moore added.
"I know and I think you do too that the foundations of the fabric of our country are being shaken tremendously", said Moore.
The anti-gay Moore will be trying to get elected to the seat left vacant when Jeff Sessions was appointed US Attorney General. "Our sacred institution has being destroyed by the Supreme Court". He chose state Attorney General Luther Strange, ignoring rumors the new senator had given the Bentley scandal a wide berth in exchange for this supreme favor.
A gay rights group says suspended Chief Justice Roy Moore is seeking to capitalize on the name recognition he gained "for harming LGBTQ people" in Alabama. Moore had repeatedly ordered the state's probate judges to defy federal court rulings striking down the state's same-sex marriage ban, including the historic SCOTUS ruling striking down all such bans across the country. He first came to national attention in the 1990s as a state circuit court judge who was sued by the ACLU for posting the Ten Commandments in his courtroom and holding pretrial prayers.

"Alabama will become "Ground Zero" in the political and cultural war", Dean Young, a longtime Moore supporter, said.
In 2003 Moore was removed from office by the COJ after putting a large statue of the Ten Commandments in the state judicial building in Montgomery. But they have also made him a divisive figure who often struggles to reach voters beyond his base.
"I'll stand for the rights and liberties of the people", Moore said at the Alabama capitol. He has called Moore the "Ayatollah of Alabama", saying he's unable to separate his personal religious beliefs from his judicial responsibilities.
Fighting his suspension, Moore's lawyers had incredibly tried to claim that he did not act to try and halt gay weddings, despite extensive public records and court documents on the matter.
Party primaries are scheduled for August 15 and a runoff, if needed, would be September 26. Bentley had planned to hold the Senate election in 2018, but the state's new governor, Kay Ivey, moved it up to this year, setting off what's expected to be a four-month demolition derby among Republicans, the dominating political party in the state. In 2010 he finished fourth in the Republican primary candidate for governor, and he unsuccessfully tried to unseat the state's incumbent governor in 2006.
